Find Out if Breakthrough Acceleration can Help Your Company

The Challenge

As hockey legend Wayne Gretzky famously explained, “A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.” Gretzky was able to envision the future play, and he had a pair of sharp blades to get him to the right place. Companies likewise express their vision of where they want to be by setting sustainability goals, but in many instances they do not know how they will get there. The road map needs to be developed, which often requires a new level of expertise and innovation to meet ambitious goals in carbon, energy, water, waste and new product introduction.

The Solution

Breakthrough Acceleration is a unique, proven methodology for ramping up the internal team along with key outside experts to solve complex next-generation sustainability challenges. Carefully selected participants are invited to an Innovation Tournament™, where multiple ideas for reaching goals are generated, sorted, integrated, enriched, and improved through on-line sharing and an in-person facilitated workshop. Resulting ideas are synthesized into a strategic roadmap with specific milestones toward future goals.

The complete process allows a company to tackle large, complex sustainability goals that require deep involvement of manufacturing, supply chain, materials and product design, and other core functions of the enterprise. The internal team helps define the problem and identifies the current conditions and needs, while the external experts contribute knowledge of specific processes, conditions, and technologies. The result is new insight into ways to dramatically improve performance and build capabilities, delivering maximum ROI and lasting value.

Viridis White Paper: USING AN INNOVATION TOURNAMENT TO ACHIEVE RENEWABLE ENERGY GOALS

This white paper presents detail on the Breakthrough Acceleration process that Viridis ran with P&G to uncover new solutions to reach their ambitious renewable energy goals. The report provides a much greater level detail than the video (above), especially around the process, the deliverables, and the ideas that were generated. Below is a brief excerpt.

The resulting project design represented a novel way to tackle operational environmental impact reductions. The process engaged world-class outside experts to work with P&G leaders and internal experts to generate, cull, and refine innovations through first an online platform and then an in-person, results-oriented workshop—where portfolios of solutions would be created for individual sites. The expertise in sustainability management best practices of Viridis, combined with the group’s experienced eye for “green innovation” potential, fostered a collaborative approach that would enable P&G to quickly and effectively identify gaps and opportunities, develop solutions, and build capabilities...
